If OpenSim is going to become synonymous with interoperability with second life, it's important that it's built right, and the right players get involved. It's no mystery that sometimes Microsoft likes to come in and bend things to their will, whether for better or worse. And sometimes they do make things better. But their track record with open source platforms is spotty.

The real issue is that you don't want any one vendor controlling a key component of your open source virtual world platform, nor do you want any one vendor pushing something into that standard that really borks it in the process.</description>
