Terra Firmeta

January 4, 2009

Well, if you’ve ever wanted to find yourself in a community of crazy people who like having fun and not conforming to the normal modes of operation, as posted earlier there’s still space on Corona Cay nee Podcast Island, and it looks like Dedric’s getting ready to rent out land on Woodbridge too.

Dedric has been building, scripting, and generally having fun and being part of the community since late 2005. That’s a long time, buckaroo. He’s been an on again, off again podcaster during that time and I’ve always learned something educational from his podcasts.

Shoot him an IM if you’re interested in finding out what he has in mind for his island.

Stuck Process

January 3, 2009

Read the part under “Current Performance Issue” carefully. Maybe they should fix this and then reevaluate the openspace performance before making any changes?

At the very least, no doubt this will open the door for claims that their was some LL induced bug component to the poor performance on Openspaces, regardless of whether or not those sims are overloaded and whether or not LL is telling the truth about it being rare, and minor.

They really need to publish the technical details on this one to cover their tail, IMO, if it really doesn’t have anything to do with the performance issues on Openspaces that led to this whole policy change

Spaces

No, this isn’t a blog post about some OS X Leopard feature, but it is a post to let you know that there’s still some spots open on the island formerly and technically still known as Podcast Island. I’m not sure if Itazura cares if the new name is announced or not, so I won’t announce it, but if you do a search for Podcast Island in the next few days and it’s not there, try Corona Cay instead. Just sayin.

The spots with green are still available, the ones with blue are rented. BTW, this Table Tenants functions as the rent box for the island - you “buy land” on the parcel for L$1, then you come up here and pay the actual rent on it. This keeps Itazura from having to have annoying looking rental boxes on each plot, which people apparently in the past have stated they had a hard time finding (I know mine wasn’t invisible, but hey…).

Drop Itazura or myself an IM or notecard with any questions. He’s the man to talk to, but if you see me around I’m more than happy to help.

Fail Whale, SL Style

I think I might have said in the Podmafia Christmas Special that the grid has been more stable than ever, and the client stability has been the best for me personally that it’s maybe ever been.

So, thanks to me, you can all enjoy the lottery, SL style:

And the subsequent Fail Whale, SL style.

Sorry about that. Yes, it’s been happening a lot. No, I don’t know why. Yes, I hate it too. No, I can’t fix it by retracting my statement.

By the way, I did go to the status page, and it said zippo about any logins being disabled today.

Community

January 1, 2009

You know, for the past few months Podcast and Podcaster Island have been slowly growing more deserted to the point where I really forgot what it was like to have a feeling of community. There really wasn’t one for quite awhile. So now it’s kind of like being dying out in the desert and having someone drop a canteen at your feet, and saying, “Oh, by the way, there’s a 5 star hotel a quarter mile from here surrounded by restaurants and lakes of water” to have people always there whenever I log in.

Itazura’s made the island more centrally organized and also more inviting and easier to explore. You can see further and it’s all accessible. It’s awesome. Over the tunnel, on a peak we call “Mt Rentmore,” the rental boxes for each plot are on a table named “Table Tenants.” If yours is blue, you’re paid, if it’s green, it’s up for grabs. It’s even got a 3d model of the destination station in the center.

What I really like though is that there are a lot of really cool people there in close now. I can usually find either Itazura, Keeme, Stuart, Danny, or any combination of the above present when I log in, no matter what time it is.

And speaking of Keeme… I need to say this. Having Keeme and Nika there is awesome. Anyone who knows Keeme knows how much fun he is to be around, and what kind of energy, enthusiasm, and ideas - inspiration even - he brings to whatever community he’s in. And Nika being around is fun too.. I tell you what. Having Keeme as a partner has made her reflexes QUICK, I could know exactly where she was going and I STILL could not hit her with the Graviton rifle most of the time. She’s been under intense munitions avoidance training!

Every day we have talks about what’s going on, ideas for events or things to do with the island, and it’s just a lot of fun. I’ve had plots on a lot of places in SL, but this is the best sense of community with a lot of active, involved participants that I’ve had.

It’s a lot of fun, with more fun things coming.

Resolutions

December 31, 2008

It’s about to become 2009. Most of you are already there. So, what’s it like? I know everyone is supposed to make resolutions and all that, but instead of doing that, maybe the resolutions I should list are on the part of an island. An island formerly known as Podcast island. An island that resolves to have a new name, a new look, a new owner, a new sense of community to move on with the changes.

I’ll let Itazura announce the new name when he wants, or let it just show up on the map after the transfer goes through, but the new look is already pretty much complete. The Destination Station was and continues to be a highly popular drop-in spot for explorers looking for cool locations and builds in SL, so Itazura dropped it in the center of the island. Then he partitioned off the plots into mini-islands and re-united them with a road encircling the outer island. It’s both separate and joined, peacefully isolating and yet more uniting than the previous layout. It’s nice.

Gary will have a place to record video for his fastpitch softball stuff in the SE corner, which you can see in the picture above (the big round yellow softball) so he’ll still be around. Right now I think the list of people with rented parcels is Gary, Gomem Desoto, Keeme and Nika, Danny Dwyer, Arri Gaffer, Stuart Warf, me, SLPN headquarters, and umm. Some Rezzednecks.

Some more views:

As for me, I’m floating a little prefab near the start/finish line of the racetrack so I can hang my feet over the edge and look out at the water.

Oh, yeah… if you’re driving by, and you can’t find a rest stop… feel free to help yourself. I guess maybe this is what I think of all the negativity on the SL blogs at the moment, and the people projecting it.

Itazura took the change in circumstances and handled them in his usual thinking manner. He did a great job. I think it’s going to be a fun place with a sense of community again.

The Shuttle

December 29, 2008

Sometimes you just need a change. And we definitely needed a change in locomotion methodology from the SLPN Headquarters to the Destination Station. It needed to be simple, fast, and reliable. This is what we found.

Gifts Gone Wild

December 25, 2008

Nika really has a twisted sense of humor. Knowing how much EVERYONE HATES FRICKEN, she sent me… well, this.

Next time the lump of coal will be fine, thanks!

Merry Media

Christmas cannot be complete without a little unsolicited media, so here’s some for ya. Daphne and I did a little special about Christmas stuff in SL, and she has a version of the audio on her podcast feed, I have one on my podcast feed, and then there’s this video:

If you’re subscribed to the SLPN Video feed, you’ll get that as a little stocking stuffer for your ipod.
